Indian stock market time

Trading in the stock market can only be done during a specific time interval in India. Retail customers have to do such transactions through a brokerage agency between 9.15 am and 3.30 pm. Days of the Week. Most investors buy / sell securities listed on major stock exchanges in India - Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and National Stock Exchange (NSE). The timing of the Indian stock market is the same for both of these major stock exchanges.

The time of the Indian stock market for trading is divided into three sections:

Pre-opening timing

The session runs from 9 am to 9.15 pm. An order to buy or sell any securities can be placed in the meantime. It can be further classified into three sessions:

9.00 am - 9.08 am.

At the time of opening of this stock market in India, orders can be placed for any transaction. Order entry is preferred when actual trading begins, as these orders are closed early. Any request made during this time can be changed or canceled as needed, which is beneficial to investors, and no order can be placed after the 8-minute period during the pre-opening session.

9.08 a.m. - 9.12 am.

This segment of the Indian stock market timing is responsible for pricing the security. Price matching orders are made according to the demand and supply prices, to ensure accurate transactions between investors who want to buy or sell a security, respectively. The final pricing at which trading will begin in normal Indian stock market times is done through a multilateral order matching system.

The price match order plays an important role in determining the price at which a security transaction occurs during the normal session of the Indian stock market.

However, the benefit of modification of any order not available during this session is already available.

9.12am - 9.15am.

This time acts as a transition period between the prevailing and the normal Indian stock market times. No additional orders can be placed for transactions during this time. In addition, the existing bets were already placed from 9.08 am - 9.12 pm, but cannot be canceled.

General session

This is the primary Indian stock market timing which runs from 9.15 am to 3.30 pm. Any transaction made during this time follows a bilateral order matching system, in which pricing is done through demand and supply forces.

The bilateral order matching system is unstable, causing many market fluctuations that are ultimately reflected in security prices. To control this volatility, a multi-order system was prepared for the pre-opening session and incorporated into the timing of the Indian stock market.

Post closing season
The closing time of the stock market in India is at 3.30 pm. There is no exchange after this period. However, the closing price is determined during this time, which has a significant impact on the next day's security price.

The stock market closing time in India can be divided into two sessions -

3.30 pm. - 3.40 pm.
The closing price is calculated using a weighted average of prices in securities trading from 3 o'clock. - 3.30 pm. In a stock exchange. For determining the closing prices of benchmark and sector indexes such as Nifty, Sensex, S&P Auto, the average prices of listed securities are considered.

3.40 pm. - 4 pm.
This period is the stock market closing time when bids can be made for the next day's trading. Bids placed during this time are confirmed, provided there are enough buyers and sellers in the market. These transactions are completed at a specified price, regardless of the change in market value.

Thus, capital gains can be realized if the opening price is higher than the closing price by an investor who has already placed his bid. If the closing price is higher than the opening share price, bids can be canceled during the narrow window of 9 am - 9.08 am.
